Port Preserves Control over Grove Field Airport; Unanimous Vote Not to Accept Federal Funds
Thursday, July 21, 2011
The Port of Camas-Washougal today announced a decision to not accept federal funding for airport improvements from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
At the commission meeting last night, port commissioners explained their rationale with the following statement:
“After carefully considering all information available on this issue, the commission finds that it is not in the best interest of the port to allow Grove Field to become an FAA obligated airport. This loss of control over this asset in perpetuity, funding uncertainties, considerable financing commitments, potential risk and other factors would place the port in unacceptable jeopardy.”
“This has been an extensive process and now that this decision is behind us, we can focus on economic development and job creation with the cities of Camas and Washougal and turn our attention to completing major projects such as the Steigerwald Commerce Center in our industrial park and the waterfront property analysis and planning, “ said David Ripp, executive director.
Minutes from the port meeting will shortly be available on the port website at http://www.portcw.com.
