It was a year in the planning and review process, but it’s finally complete—AND APPROVED! Hooray. Thanks again to all of the community members who contributed their time and ideas to make our port strategic planning process a success. Giving to the Poor and Needy

Each year port employees support a gift-giving effort for needy families, sponsored by the Treasure House, a local non-profit agency. Christmas Ships Parade

The annual Christmas Ships parade of boats was a success again this year. Countless numbers of people attended this annual event as we all watched the lighted ships during the special visit to the Port of Camas-Washougal. The port provided cider and cookies and many people lined the breakwater, the overlook, marina park and filled the port board room and lobby to capacity. Every spring bird enthusiasts come to the port to see Fred and Ethel. Nicknamed by our harbormaster, these raptors return each year to raise their young. Perched high atop the last piling at the end of the breakwater, adjacent to the fuel dock, they few visitors with a wary eye. Summer Aviation Camps at Grove Field

Summer scholarship are now available for the annual summer camps offered by the Camas Washougal Aviation Association based at Grove Field in Camas. The two camps are divided into age groups consisting of ages 10-14 June 22 to June 26 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m and ages 15 and older June 29, July 1 and July 3 fro 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Both groups teach aspiring aviators about aerodynamics and flying using simulation software. Earth Day Beach Cleanup

A big Thank You! goes to the more than 50 volunteers who helped the port celebrate Earth Day with a clean up project at Cottonwood Beach. It was a fun and productive time for all! Along with donuts and drinks, the sun actually made an appearance and the clouds resisted dropping any water on us. It's estimated we gathered several hundred pounds of trash using good old fashioned elbow grease, trash bags, latex gloves and unique trash pincers. I just want to thank everyone who attended the Strategic Planning meeting on April 13, 2010 at the Port offices.  The meeting went well with another great public turnout and well rounded input.  The next phase will be for Berger Abam to compile all of the input from the Commission and public and develop a Draft Goals and Policy document.  They feel they could have this completed in the next 30-days and be ready to present back to the Commission.

Airport hangar construction moving quickly

It seems like it has only been a few months since construction begin on the new hangars being built by Immelman Hangars and now the infrastructure is in place. The foundations are laid, the beams are being put in place and the sheet metal walls will be overlaid quickly. Before you know it, they will be open for lease. Get your reservation in quickly! Beginning on Sunday night, October 11, fire crews were reported to be engaged in a losing battle with a quick-moving 33-acre brush fire on state land in the Yacolt Burn State Forest, north of Jackson Pass and northeast of Jones Creek Campground.
