2012 Riverside Summer Concert Series

Presented by Lacamas Credit Union, and supported by numerous local businesses, this year’s summer concerts are slated for July 4 and August 17. Fireworks provided by the City of Washougal begin at 10 p.m. on July 4. Bring your low-back chairs and blankets. Food, beer and wine will be available for purchase. The lineup is: Justin Klump band at 6 p.m., followed by Big Night Out at 8:30. Fireworks at 10 p.m. On Friday, August 17, Flexor-T will start your feet pumping at 6:30 p.m.

Art Display Program

One of the benefits of having the port office close to the popular marina, boat launch and waterfront park is the regular flow of visitors. To take advantage of the number of visitors as well as create an opportunity to educate visitors, the port has created a lobby area that is friendly and informative. Larry Connelly Surprise Visit!

Surprising staff and friends, port employee Larry Connelly walked into marina park on Sept. 16 to enjoy the concert. Stunning everyone, he explained that Stanford University hospital let him out six weeks early—a sign that his recovery is well underway. As many of you recall, Larry was the recipient of a double-lung transplant just a few months ago. He’s recovering now at home and says, “I feel like I’m 20 years younger!” He looks like it too! The FINAL step in the treasure hunt is to use a Word Search puzzle and circle all of the correct answers from all 10 of the Treasure Hunt clues. Northern Pike Minnow Fishing in Full Swing

The port kicked off a Community ‘Treasure of Knowledge’ Treasure Hunt in November 2011. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Port of Camas-Washougal, an entertaining geocache treasure hunt was created as a fun, educational method to engage with members of the community. Fred and Ethel have returned

Each year, Fred and Ethel, a pair of osprey named by port staff, return to the nest they built atop the last piling at the breakwater, adjacent to the gas dock. Every Spring they return and are a beautiful, majestic sight as they soar over the marina. Sometimes they will squawk loudly at visitors who they think get too close to their nest.

The port marina is a Certified Clean Marina under the Clean Marina Washington Program.

The port has earned the right to “fly the flag” of the Clean Marina Washington Program. What this means is that after a comprehensive program of monitoring and protecting water quality, properly managing waste and promoting clean boating, the port has joined 31 other marinas in Washington State—and the ONLY publicly-owned marina in Washington to earn this award. In November 2011, the 75th Anniversary Event was the launch of a community treasure hunt. With educational tips and ultimately a reward for the person to find all of the correct clues, the fun is in the hunt.

Clues for the first three locations are found at the following coordinates: Clue #1 N 45.34.075, W 122.20.369, Clue #2 N 45.34.773, W 122.22.947, Clue #3 N 45.33.755, W 122.19.612. Look for a small, sealed container nearby. Most coordinates are accurate to within 30-feet. Happy Hunting!…
